Boston police officer Ezekiel Hodson, 25, is shot and killed in the line of duty.

The first Boston police officer killed in the line of duty, Hodson is shot while trying to put handcuffs on William McNulty at the corner of Maverick Street and Havre Street. Convicted of second degree murder and sent to prison, McNulty is pardoned due to poor health on July 20, 1865.
